The "Tone wood" Bass!

This things been sitting on a shelf in the shop long enough. While I had the neck pocket jig out for Uli's bass I went ahead and routed the neck pocket for this one. The bridge is one that I had boxed up, I don't remember where I got it.

geez Scott... i know slow and steady wins the race, but this is ridiculous!
Yeah, no hurry on this one! It's slowly coming along though.
While the finish is drying on Uli's bass I made a little bit of time for this one, it just needs a little more shaping and the pup cavity routed and it will be ready for finish sanding. I've changed my mind and made it a set neck.
I wet the wood for the photos, I'm thinking about going with a burst finish on this one.

The Osage stripe in the neck looks killer. That'll darken up nicely, too.

beautiful bass...but what's up with the nut?
looks like either the neck should be more tapered, or the nut should be cut for wider string spacing...obviously, the latter is the easier approach

I'd bet its just something he had handy thrown on to test the bass, and he'll cut a propper on post finish.
Yep you got it! It's a plastic nut that I had, the bass will get a hardwood nut whenever I get to the setup stage.
Uh oh, it looks like project tone wood is getting a finish applied! Yep, that's right the longest running build in Redeemer History is just about ready to wrap up.
I took the opportunity to use this bass as a guinea pig for a dye process that I've been wanting to try. Although I'm happy with the results, I should have masked the part of the neck that shows on the front of the bass as the pecan did not accept the dye well (closed pore wood doh!!) I left the cavity cover unfinished in this photo to show the before and after difference. I call it Sedona Red can any one guess why?
