Thanks Ivyman Truly, there are as many top basses as bassists... after we collectively picked the most popular model, we'd debate finish and hardware. Of course, then we'd all argue the merits of strings, and from there on to amps... Frankly, I'm glad that some people like basses I don't like. It gives us all room to have a voice and lends diversity to music.

Are these the top 10 basses by any particular category, or just the OP's opinion? Ritter? Really?

No mention of:
Steinberger, Ibanez Musician, Aria Pro, Danalectro longhorn, G&L L-2000 (??!?!?!?!??!), Ripper/Grabber type basses etc.
Surely these basses are the sound of an entire generation of music.

these are just my opinion, and are based of my personal experiences with different basses. havent had much experience with those basses (im only 15). But i have played a ritter and it was amazing.

and for future reference the idea of the post was not to make a definite list, it was to share my personal favourite basses. It was also to attract attention and argument to my blog, this has obviously worked as i had 458 views in the last day, as apposed to 59 the day before i posted the article.

Way back, I had a very functional darned nice looking P and a dead mint Jazz. the Jazz always cam out for jams and and some pratice and such. Somwhat of a pride and joy ooh-ahhh thing maybe. One night the sound clown (no offense meant to any one, thats what he liked being called), asked why I always gigged with the P. It had not dawned on me, but I preffered the P for gigging

Someday, If I ever get the coinage, it will be a P body and J neck, four strings, one PUP, and thats me.
