I would definitely have to agree with that!
And I busted up royally when I saw those pics of Danny! Well played, sir! (uh.......meaning you, not Danny!)

Where did I bash anyone for liking KISS?

I stand corrected. They're all masterpieces.

...it comes off as sour grapes.

I think KISS, in their heyday, was quite imaginative, not derivative or hackneyed at all, taken in the context of their time, and their popularity then and now (isn't that what POPular music is, when a lot of people like something, it's by definition, popular).
While the OP is certainly entitled to his/her opinion, as are we all, IMO it comes off as sour grapes.
Kiss was named 10th, by VH1, on their list of the '100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock' and 9th on 'The Greatest Metal Bands' list by MTV. On September 23, 2009, Kiss was named 1st on their list of the "Hit Parader top 100 live bands". In 2010 Kiss was named 56th, by VH1, on their list of the "100 Greatest Artists Of All Time".
According to RIAA: KISS 19M units sold, Macca 15.5M units.
Well, I tried not to. I think it's hard to make a critical point without that accusation so I showed how I too have been lucky. And then there are those who say that comes off as bragging.
Can't win.

I don't look at it as a win/lose proposition. You have an opinion and you stated it. It's not an easily defended position.
But you opened the door to comparisons by bringing your personal 'achievements' into the mix. While I'm not a fan of keeping score by the $'s, I'm certain Mr. $immons has you beat in that department. I understand he was on television as well.
I'm sure you're a more than adequate bass player, maybe even better than me. But Gene Simmons was one of the first reasons I picked up a four-string. That's good enough for me.
I tried. Really I did. But Macca wouldn't listen to me. When the Beatles broke up, and Macca wasn't sure about what to do in his music career, I tried to talk him into face paint and flailing his tongue all over the place. He just wouldn't go for it. And now look at this. Just look at those RIAA stats.
See Mac...........told ya.
That was the 80's.As mentioned, the music scene ain't what it used to be.
And honestly, I'm not even sure what a supporting member is.
It is an option to help fund the forum. People who have donated have are allowed more privileges, such as using an avatar or selling items in the classifieds. I donated as soon as I had the chance. We all know TB is great! http://www.talkbass.com/forum/payments.php
There you have it. I guess that proves Gene Simmons is better than Paul McCartney.
It's probably the best $20 I ever spent!
Better being very subjective, I wouldn't care to offer an opinion. But it certainly speaks volumes regarding popularity and giving people what they want.
That's what's so great about music, there's something out there for just about everyone, and if you can't find it and want to put in the time, you can make your own music and find a little pocket of goodness all to yourself.
