Moog Artist in Rock/Pop 5th down
show us how you guys get those great synth tones. synth pedals are allowed, but only if used in conjunction with another effect.

heres a few to get started:
MXR Blue Box(2 octaves down and fuzz)into a Wah all the way down, finally a Chorus.
Envelope Filter into a Distortion.(carefull, the order is important on that one)
Moog Phaser with the Resonance all the way up and OC-3 befoe it.

Machine->mammoth->moog low pass ->trem -> choralflange

THeres an expression pedal on the moog's cutoff

the trem's usually on square wave, and one can get some really interesting effects with the rhythms

I think the choral flange would do better as a phaser, but you work with what you've got... and this part isn't actually used all that much... fun now and then, but not essential.

it was pretty cool with the pog after the mammoth, and a muff'n after the moogerfooger.. crazy lows, weird highs, and really really tight fuzz with the mammoth into the muff'n and maxing out the gain on both.

Oh yeah, and i have an unboxed green ringer clone that can do some entertaining things to chords

I do Distortion -> Moog Low pass.

my chain right now is as follows:

Radial input switcher -> Boss DD-3 -> Boss ODB-3 -> Moog Lowpass -> EH Bassballs

I use the Bassballs for really obvious filter, switch on the distortion for super obvious in your face filter, the Moog for more musical song setting filter, and the Moog + Distortion for my wild Synth esque sounds. I am also fond of Delay + Distortion + Moog, to get some cool spacy tones. However, the ODB-3 has a nasty habit of over distorting and losing the note. Perhaps I should put it before the delay?

Dude: nice!

I think my synthiest synthtone is bass tone rolled-off all the way, compressor, OC-3, Xciter, ODB-3, then I turn the threshold way-up on the NS-2 to get a good, tight 'squelch'.

I leave-off the D.Dawg because that sounds too 'organic' or 'expressive'. Kind-of the same with the chorus. The OC-3 is set in either poly or OC-2 mode, with the octave level way-down at like 9:00 or 10:00 (which is higher than I usually run it). I leave the xciter set about the same all the time: 6:00, 6:30, 5:00, 6:30. the ODB's gain is maxed, with treble=11:30, Bass=1:30. The high-mids on the 700RBII amp head are (always) cranked.

For the synth jam band thing I use an EHX BassMicroSynth as well as an Akai Deep Impact but I also use a couple of distortions, Daddy-O, Big Muff and Boss ODB as well as a BassBalls and DrQ plus the Akai UniBass to add octave and harmony and use several patches on the BP-8 for pitch, delay, chorus, flange, phase & reverb effects.
I use a mixer and patchbay to run & pull it all together and it changes every time.
For the synth stuff I record it's really just what ever works.

I've got a dbx Subharmonic Synthesizer in my rack, and one of my preamp patches has that unit active and hot, with the highs mostly rolled off on the preamp; I play everything an octave up on this patch, but they sound an octave down because of the dbx and the rolled off highs. It's a very synth-y bass tone that shakes the room - pretty cool!
