I think this would be the ultimate synth. They made a bass version too. That guy's using it with an Oberheim SEM.

this unit only semi-counts. the original was available 2 ways. either you got a special bass that Hagstrom sold, or, you got all of the necissary parts and went to modding your bass.

There was a invention that came before that that used the same technology but was with a organ, I think is was called the Guitar-organ or something, I even got to see one at Subway guitars too, but I never heard it.

that unit was most likely made by Vox in 1967. the Vox units never made regular production, and at least one prototype made its way to John Lennon. this page has some more info on the Vox:

there was another one made by a company called Musiconics. they went out and bought a bunch of ES-335 clones and hacked them up to make Guitorgans.

unfortunately, there are not any bass organs to my knowledge.
