People tune to F#?!?!?! What kinda string do you use for that? I take it's reserved for only the most bleak of sludge or death metal.

Pain is metal!
Its sharp because after a while of people getting cut on it, he's going to put a clear coat on it to protect the blood splatters. that would be incredibly cool.

well, i had an awesome night of doing nothing but playing my new bass and drinking beer. man, this thing is just awesome. and i have zero complaints. everything is really top notch.
i spent alot of time revising the design... like a whole year at the drawing board. and when i sent the design to Brent at Monson Guitars, he was totally cool about building it for me, just like i had it. he suggested using maple for the body wings because they would be harder and tougher and not be as likely to chip off one of my pointy edges. a cool side-effect of the maple, is that it adds alot of bite to the tone. not too much treble like a Ric, but somewhere in between a Ric and the darkness of a Precision.
the quarterpounder is HOT! it has huge output and really sounds great. i had Brent flip the coils and move the bass side toward the bridge and treble side toward the neck and i'm really pleased with the result. it kinda tightened up the low end and fattened up the highs at the same time. overall, the sound is very clear and defined with a tight, focused low end, and not too much bass. it just sounds incredible. and of course no volume or tone knobs to degrade the tone. zero signal loss due to pot-loading. who needs controls for metal?!? crank it all the way up and leave it alone!
the curves and body lines are so smooth and the the finish is flawless.the set-up was perfect and the action was nice and low, with almost no relief and zero fret buzz. it just plays so easily. and it's actually amazingly comfortable. the balance is just crazy. and it is really really light! it's really the most playable bass i've had and i would have never expected that! it just sounds and plays like a dream. i wish i had done this years ago. i'm definitely sold! i guess i'm gonna have to bite the bullet and have him start on a fretless twin to match!
