I think your getting a bad/false reading on the XLR but the reading on the 1/4 looks good.
You have an 8 ohm cab.
A 4 ohm cab would read around 3 ohms IIRC.

I think your getting a bad/false reading on the XLR but the reading on the 1/4 looks good.

Thanks for your help. 8 ohms seems to be what most of the Red Stipe line I found online. I’m not positive about the inputs on the cab or pin configuration on XLR, but just assumed mine would be the same as other 1518’s. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
SMX series came as
Preamp only
250w with all the EQ but minus the stereo.
600w stereo twin 300w power amps.
A rare stupid powerful 2ohm per siide version.
I think that was all put out under Kaman originally but not sure.
Later versions came with 300w and 500w power stages.

In '98-90 i owned a 350W head on a 4x10" and a 1x15" cab playing a lend, very marvelous Pedulla MVP on; the bass i liked pretty much but not the Trace: it had a kinda cold & bitta unhappy tone response to me and i've been glad to get a 100W/4x10" AMPEG for. Sorry yo' Trace guys for mho and brothers in arm although, peace! ;-)

I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but I’m genuinely curious as I’ve been a member of Talkbass for many years and see posts of the same nature in other threads.
I gotta ask (and again I am really just asking bc I’m curious), if you don’t currently or recently own Trace gear, and don’t like Trace gear, why stop at a post about cataloging information about Trace gear and let everyone in the thread know 1), You don’t use it, 2), You don’t like it, and 3), that you use some other manufacturers stuff (then tell us about your non-Trace Elliot gear?)
I definitely appreciate your last statement about us having more in common as bassists than merely choice of gear, but in all of the years of seeing posts of a similar tone in other threads I have to ask someone, “What’s the real point of adding to a thread if you’re not in anyway contributing contextually relevant content to the thread?”
It’s clearly not an opinion thread ...
The purpose of the thread is clear and pure in its intent. Trace Elliot lives. Long live Trace.

I’ve had a few pieces of TE. A Kaman era 7215 old stock that I got right before SMX came out and then a 715SM I purchased off a clearance from Musicians Friend. Great but both times had to sell due to moving house. My lone piece is a Series 6 preamp which I use on the occasional studio recording. Best pre I’ve had.

I seem to remember there being a Dutch Trace Elliot forum, that with the aid of google translate, could be mined for some useful info, and a few old catalogues.
Between that, and Basschat, British Audio Service's user manual archive, and the Team Trace threads here, there is a wealth of information - but coalescing it all into an easily digestible format, for the ultimate historical archive, is going to be a major undertaking.
