I made some mods such as adding a red tort pick guard, black pick guard, white pearloid and transparent pickguards (all handcrafted by awesome Nino Valenti).
ALso changes the pickups to Nordy's 70's wound and also preamp changed from OBP-2 to Nordy 3 band with VTC.

Black would do nicely it if it was a longhorn style, giving a more "yin/yang" look. I'd like pearl and black pearl would be nice in the standard size. Trujo, they all look NICE!!!!!!!

BTW, while #067 was a perfect J5, I have to disagree politely with Chef. The Audere pre is DA BOMB! You want an MM Sterling. Gots. FLea's Wal. Gots. Ricky. Gots. Pure raw sc J bass. GOTS!!! Wonderful preamp, MUCH more versatile than a std 2/3 band. Really "excites" those AERO pups. LowZ mode is intersting, and with teh Audere and tis blend control, somehow running one or the other pup very unbalanced does not produce the big hum it would passive. Low Z mode for the bridge pup solo'd makes it a pure MM, like the old style MM.

Prior to this, no preamp did anything for me that my fingers, the balance control or the tone control couldn't do. But they couldn't make a J bass sound like a Bongo or Wal. THe Z6 with its blend, multiple impedence loadings and 3 band EQ ( nice mid and treble adjsutments btw) give you a HUGE pallette to work with.

It isnt a Sad or Nordy, to be sure.

You can like the audere if you like, and that's fine;)
Different strokes and all.

To me, every flavor of the audere sounded disingenuous.
Lots of flavors, none of which I liked.

ymmv, of course.

Indeed. To each his own. To date, I've found most preamps useless, prefering unmolested single coil magnetics direct to tubes. But this makes my Valenti way more than a one trick pony.

One trouble is, I can't use my typical 60-65% throttle on the Mesa preamp and have the bass boosted at all, fuzz. Happened with other on-board pre's too.

And for the record, Chef's a pro, and I aint! so infer accordingly!

Personal preference is just that, and equally valid no matter who you are!

With regards to the preamp driving the mesa into grit: are you using the active setting on the input?

Mine's old Chef, it has two holes, and yes, into active. Still my "dream" signal, right from the magnets in those single coils to the glowing tube in the Mesa.

Trujo, Jim says a mint guard. Well heck I have one off the JoBo you can have. If it lines up with my Valenti, you can try it for Jim's sake. ;)

I was just thinking....... pearl grey, yes gray..... hmmm..... we need a photoshop guru to model these basses for us!

LowZ mode on the neck pickup causes this specifically.

Recall these are hot (not overwound but very thin wire wound ?) Aero I pups. That low Z mode really excites 'em. The neck is set dangerously close to the outside of the narrow .7mm "window" that Larry requires the pups to be in.


And that Auderee darn well knows it!

Dude, in lowz, you solo the neck and you're playing a Pbass, solo the bridge, add some depth and shimmer, its a Music Man. through and through.

Nice new site, lots of in stock basses...cool!

I will say this though:
I really liked the gallery of *all* the sold basses to look thru, you ought to get that back.

Ok so we just had the GTG in NE over the weekend and as always I'm on a mission at these things not just to socialize but to play every interesting bass at the event. (I always bring a stable of my own basses for others with the same agenda).

I always like Nino's basses every time I tried them at these events and...I have to say He is always stepping up His game.

The new 24 fret models He is building that have this slightly contour shape are just absolutely stellar.

It played and sounded fantastic.

Very comfortable with a strap. I think you working guys doing 3 sets a night should check one of these out since it felt so good standing up.

The particular model I tried had a humbuckers and the tone was reminiscent of a MM meets a J bass but not in a Lakland kind of way but its own unique musical voice that had just the right amount of growl to it.

I totally dug it and in plain English it just kicked @ss.
