Very nice clip, Will. You can really hear the ash growl with the NJ5's. And, agreed Alan, on the single coil grit and growl versus hum cancelling pickups.
Mine (#100) has Carey's NJ5 70's wind in '70's position, but with alder/maple, a la early 70's Fender Jazz. The single coils in the 70's position give it just enough aggression, while the alder is a tad rounder and sweeter than ash.
This beast is
it for me. In all my years of playing, this is the first bass that I'm more impressed with each time I pick it up, and that I don't consider selling... ever. I've talked to Nino about a fretless someday, and although #100 will need to go back to Nino for some fret hygiene, she will not be going anywhere else to live.
