Agreed, mid-season finale was well done, well worth the wait. Nice twist, took me by surprise. Took the characters by surprise too.

From what I've read so far Sophia is just another kid who plays & talks with Carl. Weak character in the comic. Far better solution in the show. Maybe she becomes useful later but we haven't read that far yet. I shouldn't be reading this thread to avoid spoilers but just had to look. Bravo on the tv series.

Carl lost his love intertest (comic). Hard to spoil anything if they are deviating from the comic so much, which in my opinion, so far, has definately been for the better. Darryl is one of everyones favorite characters, who was never in the comic. Shame is working out well too (cant say how or why)

the conservative / fundamentalist Vet who owns the farm hasn't invited them into the house, they are just camping in the yard.
same as above mostly. but having worked on a farm similar to that in my youth, I didn't see anything odd with where they were peeling carrots. We use to pick random spots to do random chores that were outside the main house's 'yard'... generally a few hundred yards from the building.
Sure - the farm itself. By all outward appearances it was a safe haven this is why they felt safe in teh tents. Sort of like their first spot outside of Atlanta in the first season..
That's why the characters had reacted is such a shocked manner at there being walkers in the barn - it was "safe" suddenly it wasn't..
bingo. as far as the group knew, the only one they'd seen was in the well. otherwise is was safe. thats why they wanted to stay there. it seemed so safe. seemed as such because herschel was rounding up the dead and locking them up. not sure when he found time for that with all the people there.
