The warmest rig?

Alright.. Ill be the first to say Aguilar DB750...
I ran a A/B test on it with my Sunn 300T.. The all tube Sunn sounded harsh and sterile compared to the Aggie.. had to tweak it alot to get it to sound nearly as warm.. had to run it @ quite a high volume as well..

So.. selling it.. getting a 750 instead

The Ashdown ABM series heads are incredibly warm, even with the EQ run completely flat. At NAMM today I saw the new ABM 500 evo III (i have an evo II), which now have onboard compression... i want one. Despite an occasionally bum rap around these parts, I've grown quite fond of the warm fatness that my ashdown produces with little effort.

Your sunn 300T sounded harsh and sterile? What were you running it through High frequency horns? That amp is the oposite of sterile and harsh unless someone put some Godawful tubes in there. Mine is always warm and smooth . Not saying you are wrong just something must be wrong with your amp.

I agree, I never had a harsh and sterile sound out of my Fender 300 Pro, in fact I think that amp has too much natural low end even (IMO)

Guys... in comparison..

The A/B test showed me that there was no doubt that the Sunn needed more tweaking to get the sound I really whanted.. In fact.. the 750 needed no tweaking at all.. totally flat.. And when listening over again to the DB750.. the headroom and dynamics of that amp suited my playing better..
Ive been playing the Sunn for about 7 years.. so its not that it sounds bad.. Its a great amp.. but imo, not as good as the DB750.. and a bit heavier too..

Just my $0.30 split in a quarter and a nickle.. :smug:
