The Who at halfltime

I haven't been a member of TB for long, but it seems to be an outlet more for ragging and venting, not constructive criticism, so here goes...It was what I expected. Hasn't anyone heard The Who post Moon or Entwistle? Roger and Pete sound LOADS better than Robert and Jimmy who only very rarely play together anymore, and THEIR bassist is still alive!

I agree with most of what was said. Pino rocks:bassist:, Pete is getting old but still has a few licks left in him, and his belly?...well, 'nuff said. Roger's voice is shot; he has to shout it out now. Zak was great.
That said, it still rocked to some degree. The sum of these parts got it together and made me watch and tap my feet.

Roger can still sing pretty well. Pete sounds a bit rough. It was no original line-up, but i liked the show. My biggest gripe is Pete Townshend has been smashing guitars without remorse for about half a century, but when he's in front of possibly the biggest audience he's ever has, he lays it down gently? What gives?

I'm pretty certain it wasn't a lip-synch. The TV guys sometimes get the sound disconnected from the images, kind of like the 7-second delay they always observe in order to bleep out profanity.

How come nobody mentioned Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake?? :)

By the way, please tell me I'm not the only one here who picked up on the extreme irony of the band playing "Won't Get Fooled Again" at the Super Bowl halftime show - surely one of the highest-profile corporate-supported, corporate-themed performance platforms in all of show biz... :atoz:

My, how times have changed... :crying:

MM

Nope, its unbelievable how songs like that were turned in this case into corperate candy. I think the point of having these kinds of shows recently at the Super Bowl is to make the biggest splash at the lowest possible cost.

The message and the rebellion has been totally lost, that's for sure.

Hell has officially frozen over. The Saints have won the Super Bowl.

I was in a bar with a VERY partisan crowd, and when The Who were doing the chorus to "Who Are You", we were all singing (yelling) "Who DAT, who DAT" in the response lines. I thought the lights were cool. Overblown, yes, but cool. The band's performance was OK.

I heard the bass very well; the sound was being pumped over a PA with lots of low end.

Sorry, but hell won't freeze over until the Detroit Lions win the Super Bowl.

Back on topic: Am I the only one who sees absolutely no resemblance between Zak Starkey and Ringo Starr? I watched teh DVD that came with the last Who CD with my son and pointed out "that drummer's dad played with the Beatles". He came back with, "You mean pre-Ringo?" That's when I told him that he is Ringo's son.

I thought that was a kickass performance, and the best the Who has sounded since Entwistle passed. Pete's a madman, and Daltreys voice sounded damn good for his age, better than I've heard it in a long time (he was real rough on The Who @VH1 Rock Honors). I was pleasantly surprised, and happy to see that one of my fave acts can still rock live.
