The Worst Thing that's ever happened...

I had found that great and old accoustic EKO bass. It was strung with some kind of rubber strings.
After a few weeks i decided to replace them with a regular set.
When i came back home the neck was broke in two by the scarfjoint.
Saved money up for a while to get it fixed after a few month.
One of the first time i took it out again was at a house party .
After a few beers forgot that the bass was laying by my feet and managed to step on the neck.
It broke again next to the first crack(the luthier's fix was obviously well done!!!)
Saved some more and had it fixed again plus got it adjusted to perfection .
That bass was the best accoustic bass i ever played after that second fix. Two month after it spent the night in my car. In the morning i had a broken window and no more EKO
Alqo got a Warwick corvette proline left handed stolen at a venue while packing the gear....

I had my nice new StingRay do a faceplant off its stand onto concrete after the drummer caught his foot in the cord when he was going back to his drums. No big damage.
I also had someone (I suspect it was the bass player from the other band) completely detune my bass after it was set-up and ready to go for a gig. I had no time to warn the other band members and the first tune counted off before I could get it back in tune.

I was invited to fill the bass gap in my friends band, so i went over to meet some kids that at the time I barely knew, they told me that we'd start off with a rendition of Rocket Queen. Right after we played through the drummer threw his drumstick at me which flew like a missile and left a nasty dent in my baby.

Had my custom Wal 5 string (picked out the wood blanks in the shop at High Wycombe) stolen at LaGuardia Airport in NYC. The air line only replaced it at "luggage value" by weight.

Broke my heart :crying:

Otter.

Insurance? When I get a bass over a grand, it will have it's own insurance rider.....

As for me, the worst thing that ever happened is that I sold my fairly rare bright red T 40 (what an idiot)....youth is wasted on the young!

That would be a punch to the throat for him if I were you....

I've told this story before and I'll preface it by saying I found it funny....

I left an Ibanez GSR200 I'd defretted myself at our drummers place whilst I went home to grab a Warwick for a jam. As I was driving home, drummer sent me a text message saying that he was taking my bass apart....I wrote back saying I didn't beleive him.

Next minute, my phone gets a picture message with the bass in bits all over his room. He removed every screw and saddle from the bridge, cut the wires and basically put it in as many bits as humanly possible....

Bass never got put back together again, and was subsequently thrown in a swimming pool....

I wasn't mad, I actually found it kinda funny :)

Here is the pic that they sent me whilst driving back to attempt to rescue it!

I had an epiphone thunderbird which was my baby after upgrading from my very first bass, a stagg bc300. Was at a band practice one day and got asked if I could do the whole "swing it round your head and catch it" thing. After a few failed attempts I managed to do it, almost caught it on the down swing and...it dropped right out of my hands. Split the fretboard from the neck at the nut and had a nice crack down the back of the headstock. I wasn't too pleased and had no idea how to go about fixing it myself.

Luckily this tragic (ha!) event has a happy ending though, because I took the busted thunderbird to a local guitar store which was well known for not being too smart on their trades (it's since closed down), and saw a MIM fender P for £400. I offered the guy £200 and the knackered epi for the precision. He took the epiphone off me, played a few notes, commented on how he'd always really liked the body shape, spoke to his manager friend for a bit and then said we had a deal! I don't think he even noticed that it was broken, otherwise he surely wouldn't have taken a knock off of 200 quid - but his loss was my gain. A few months later a friend from college went into the same store and saw my old thunderbird for sale, badly glued together and marked up at £350. Turns out somebody bought it as well! I guess the store gained from it in the end too because of some poor sap ...I learnt my lesson though. Luckily I still have my Precision, and havn't tried to swing any bass around since.

Sharp object fell from the top shelf of my closet onto the back of the neck of my SX PJ and took a quarter inch bite out of it. It doesn't really affect anything (yet) but I can feel it when I play and it makes me angry that it happened. Anywhere else on the bass besides the neck would have been fine with me.

A fellow bass player called me one day and said his Yamaha had died. Wasn't the battery (I'm also an electronics tech) so I told him bring it by that evening and I'd scope it out. He said he would but his band had a gig that night. "No problem", says I, come on over, drop off your bass and take one of mine. Well, he picked out my 1972 Hofner 500/1. Brought it back the next day and the jack was shoved up inside the bass, the bottom bout was stove in all around the jack and the top was cracked. Seems he went to put it on his stand and dropped it on the floor, right on the jack/cable end (straight end.) Needless to say, I never loan out my high end or vintage basses anymore. Wanna borrow a bass, take the Ibanex SDGR 400, the Peavey Foundation, the hofner knock off, stay away from the jazz, P bass, hofner and old ricks.

Playing my Pbass while sitting at my desk one day I stood up suddenly at the sound of the telephone. Unfortunately, the desk drawer wasn't closed all the way and caught the cable jack, snapping the (custom clear acrylic) pickguard and ripping the jack from the body. I was rather unhappy to say the least.

Now I only use angle-jacked patch cords.

my olp fell OFF a stage due to a faulty strap knob. it was unscathed. tuned a string and played a show.

my 6'er met its demise when i left it at the ex guitard's house. apparently his dog knocked it off the stand.. cracked the headstock right off. best techs in town cant fix it. im out 400 bucks. yay.
