The Worst Thing that's ever happened...

To your bass. This is my first thread, and I would like to hear some stories on what you/other people have done to your bass. For me, I brought my old Squier J to my old band's first practice. Needless to say, I left my bass in the hands of the singer. I left the room for a few seconds and when I returned, the neck was completely cracked in two and the front had a huge scratch on it. I have no idea what went wrong! So, what has happened to you guys?

Had my custom Wal 5 string (picked out the wood blanks in the shop at High Wycombe) stolen at LaGuardia Airport in NYC. The air line only replaced it at "luggage value" by weight.

Broke my heart :crying:

Otter.

I would have killed somebody. Seriously.

The worst thing that ever happened to my bass (in the context of it being a Fender Precision) was when I bought it. A month from now, the only original part will be the body and the bridge.

not bass related, but last show i was at...my band was wrapping up all of our gear & loading out while i was taking care of our merch. after everything was wrapped up & taken care of i asked my drummer if he made sure he got all my cables & stuff. he said he was sure.

needless to say, at practice today, i'm out $100 worth of monster cables. i was NOT happy at practice today. :(

Back in my late teens, we were jamming at the drummers house in his living room and when I went to lift my bass off, the ceiling fan took a chunk out of the end of the headstock. Granted, it was just a Lotus Jazz copy, but it still sucked!

Then, a few years ago, I was hanging my basses on a wall. I had enough room to hang 6 of them and while I was hanging the last one (a new Ricky), the first one (older Zon Legacy Standard 4) came crashing down. Thankfully, it only suffered a ding near the jack but I immediately pulled the rest of them down and re-did the hangers w/ longer tap-cons to really secure them. That was scary.

Well, my SR400 got stolen along with my amp, my guitarist's amp, and my plunking-around-on-and-songwriting guitar. That was a bad day.

Other than that, whacking my HS marching band drum major in the head with the stock of a J-Bass was about the worst thing that happened, accident-wise. I'm pretty sure she got the short end of the stick on that one, though. I still feel bad; I hit her like three times in one year :bawl:

This happened to a friend, who was also the singer of his band. I was in teh audience to witness this. So, he had gotten his prized Ric ( I believe a 4001) a couple weeks before, and took it to his first gig. Things were going well, and they ended a song. He was talking to the crowd, did not have a hand on the bass, and suddenly the strap let go sending the headstock flying into the floor. Well, the neck snapped mid gig. That was an unhappy man.

One time at rehersal, I leaned my bass on my amp, while I got my cables and tuner out. Crash! it hit the concrete floor strings down. The crash just about broke my headstock off. It was my Dean, but it's still a nice bass. The repair guy said "$75 to just fix it or $120 and you'll never see the crack" I said "lets do the $75 deal, that way it will remind me to use a stand next time". I use a stand now or lay it down on my case.
I couldn't hardly make it through rehersal, all I could think about was my bass, and what an idiot I am. I wanted to cry :bawl:

That would have made the perfect picture. The bass and the singer both with broken necks.

None of my basses ever go anywhere without straplocks!

Is that because you strangled the singer before he could tell you? What was his explanation?

My first nice bass way back in the 70s was an Alembic Spoiler. The original owner was in a terrible car accident and the neck snapped off at the body join. It was repaired, I bought it, and a few years later it fell face forward onto a concrete floor and snapped off the headstock. It was repaired, and a few years later it was stolen out of my basement.

Cursed I tell you.
