The Yamaha RBX 800 Bass

I have Yamaha RBX800AF. I bought it in 1999 from my friend for 100$. I love his sound.

Hey guys well im new here.. but i had to comment..

First of all i dont consider myself a bass player.. i am one of those many Guitar dudes that for some reason played bass in a band or something.. and after a while i guess i got the hang of it.. ( im too proud to play death metal with my fingers now..)

So i have played a lot of different basses ove rthe years.. ive had Bc-Rich ( sucks ), ESP (decent), Fender ( for some kinds of music they are just the best ), and most recently a Hohner ( the jack bass model wich resembless an Steinberger ). so far this
was my fave until one day browsing to the used instruments market in my town.. ( if you can call the biggest city in the world a town ), there it was.. i just saw this banged up cute ( not so ) little glossy electric kind of purple-ish Yamaha Fretless Bass.. well i checked it out.. i plugged it in and i just fell in love with the tone.. i mean as i said this was banged pretty hard and i ended up buying it for less than $100 US dollars.

So far is my fave.. i must say that it was my first fretless experience and i will not go back its just so amazing.

I just wish it didnt had that many scratches on the back and some of the paint is falling.. it has tons of bruises although it doesnt seem in the pictures.. so if anyone of you guys happen to know womeone selling one of these.. FRETLESS.. please let me know through here.. i want a replacement.

Although there is that RBX4 A2 that is hinting me.. how do you like that one?..

Yes I have in my stash the RBX800A as well have had it since I thought was about 88 I may be wrong in my timing since so many different axes have passed throught the chopping block. But that one I still hold onto have walked pass a many top flight basses and kept this one just where I could grab it. It has lovely sound and tone and plays like it was made to be played no pun intended.I was a youngun then and allowed it to get scractched up with my belt buckles and things. But she's my gurl and no matter how ugly she gets she will continue to hold that special place in me heart. She is a dark blue with gold faded now wood grain shows through great though.... I just found this site after doing a search on ebay for an RBX800A. None there, so it seems they aren't too common. The thing is, I got 1 upstairs just dying to be played again by a loving owner. I got it in about 1989-90, and I'm the only owner. Apart from a few tiny "gigging scratches" on the rear, it is in good order. It may have been the only 1 ever to reach Ireland, but can't be sure about that, although I have never seen another here and have had a few veryyy interested players admiring it over the years. I recently had it "re set" by Bill Murphy (Rory Gallagher trusted him with THE strat) so now anyone can hold down a chord with a soft breath, the action is sooo light. It's a beautiful guitar to play and in later years I used it more often than my Precision as it is lighter in weight, but with a great sound, and thus more gentler on the neck muscles for long gigs. THE THING IS - IF I wanted to sell it, what would be a sensible price? I WILL be moving to Asia to live and can't carry all my possessions, so it MAY be available. Remember, this WAS and still IS my baby. so it can only go to caring parents who will treat it well. Pics, Serial No. etc can be provided (it is a solid white - underlying metallic pale pink sheen - finish with black hardware. Looks cute, plays as mean as you want.
Oh yeah, my Precision is a USA 1975(?) - bought in 76 - 1 owner (ME) - with a narrow neck, ideal for my smaller hands, just like the Yamaha. Sunburst finish with lots of gig scars ie smooth "buffing" of finish at back etc. due to being around my neck "forever", the odd possible cigarette burn and an occasional "chip" when I missed the stand ! Nothing too serious, but it would be a shame for it to lose it's well earned character. It has been onstage with several "International Names" and wears it's honours well. Again, IF it goes, it's gotta be to a caring player who will do it justice. Like I say - I can't carry everything in 1 suitcase!!!! Anyone interested to find out more?

I have a beautiful blue RBX800A, looks similar to the green one posted by Lucky Bass, although is far better looking in blue, (all gold hardware) have several basses but this is defo my baby, Ive been looking for a replacement bridge for a little while now, anyone got any idea where I can get one to bring my baby back to life???

Here's mine, got it a few months ago for a really nice price. I'm very surprised with the tone and its playability, the neck is very thin and comfortable, there's no way you can get tired of playing with it. So far it's replacing my warwick streamer when playing funky/soul stuff. Here's some pics:

I had the see through blue RBX 800, bought it in 87 or so. Gigged it every weekend for three years. Never had a problem with it, sold it to get a different bass of the moment....wish I still had it. My buddy bought it from me as his studio bass. He died awhile later, by time I contacted his wife about buying some of his gear, she had sold it all to some pawn shop

I had 4 RBX 800's from about 1990 to about 1994. I gigged with them on a regular basis, they were great basses. Probably the first decent basses that I ever bought.

i also have a rbx 800 A its blue wondering how much i could sell it for now same as the last picture but with black sound knobs and comes with fitted case ive never seen a case so fitted around a guitar b4 you could just about drop it of a 10 story building and it wouldnt break well the case might

The 800A is the top of the line model, that's the bass I GASSED for in '91, an 800AF, but I could only afford the 200F. Those 800As are SWEET!

That is exactly my case! Back in 1992 I was ready for a new bass, and a friend of mine, who played in a band, had an 800A, and I was in love with that instrument. When I went to the store almost fell on my back because of the price, and could only afford a Red body, black neck RBX 200. I was quite happy with the purchase though, Yamahas always offer excellent quality for the price, so I was sure that if my budget bass was perfectly finished, those 800 were spotless...but whoever had a basic RBX, longed for these 800´s. I would say that is quite a catch at a very nice price. Would love to see photographs.
