The Yamaha RBX 800 Bass

I bought one of these new RBX800A and it was may main gigging bass for well over a decade. phenominal bass. Currently it's in pieces as I'm refinishing it (it was originally trans blue) and it had a ton of road wear (big finish chips, etc) from all the years on the road.

Need to find a new P pickup for it though. Somehow it disappeared after I disassembled the bass.

The first model of Yamaha RBX appears in 1987, as I know.
The models available in 1987 were the RBX200, RBX300, RBX550 and RBX800, made in Taiwan and Japan.
I have a 1987 RBX800, taiwan, bridge with microtuners, black hardware. I changed the original pickups to an EMG PJ 15 years ago.
I had opportunity to play the RBX200 and RBX550, and in my opinion, the main differences between were the hardware, electronics and the body wood, but the construction are almost the same and good quality of wood. RBX800 has an Ash body, RBX200 has alder body. But the neck, is almost the same.
For me, this is the best neck ever I've played. I've played fender, Ibanez, musicman, ken smith, tobias, alembic, but these series of RBX, even the RBX200 (taiwanese or japanese), have an incredible fast, comfortable, straigh neck. You can set the action you want in this.

Just traded a wireless unit for an rbx800af . Never heard of this bass until the trade was presented, researched on here and was surprised by the respect for this model, I have had it for a day and can't stop playing it, great tone, perfect neck, ultra quiet electronics ( I have fender jag bass with active preamp, noisy as hell, so quiet is much appreciated and new to me haha) can't say enough about this bass, can't wait to gig her

I wonder why equal Basses from Charvel or Kramer cost so much more than these Yamaha RBX800 - You neither get a Charvel 3B nor will you get a Kramer Forum III ( Only had a retail price of about 600$ ) for the price of a RBX800

That looks like an RBX1000.
I have one of those (my GoTo bass).

Just bought a well used RBX 800A.
It needs a good cleaning (Pearl white, with black hardware), strings and probably a set-up.
I think/hope it is going to be just a awesome as my RBX1000.
