The culture shift of the early 90's started making it completely acceptable to use poor grammar, curse excessively, and become completely devoid of manners. Today, it is ridiculous just how stupid many people have become.

Laziness is the main affliction in our schools, teachers, and society.

So is perceived futility. A dysfunctional system doesn't make many ppl change for the better.

I believe its the pronounciation of the contraction "should've" that has lead people to believe that "should of" is correct.

Oh, I don't know. Painting with such a broad brush strikes me as a bit of an affliction, too

I don't expect an international forum to display any standardization in the English language: people communicate differently, especially across age and cultural groups.

Different story when there is an onus or expectation of formality in communication, a la a work or study setting.

It is amazing to me how many people (not just on this forum, but in general) have no idea how to use the words "then" and "than".

less then = wrong
more then = wrong
other then = wrong
taller then = wrong
shorter then = wrong (unless you were to type "I was shorter then than I am now.")
rather then = wrong

I know. Life is too short to get bugged by things like this. I get it.

I don't get bugged but life is too short for poor grammar. It reveals your aspirations and limits your fiscal opportunities. One can always speak home, neighborhood, family, culture speak but have the proper form at your disposal.

I think it was the latter-- a contraction of "it is" in place of the possessive.

Hey this is getting kind of fun. I though everyone would just tell me to shut up. But it seems as though I'm not the only one who gets slightly irritated by grammar issues. No, I am not perfect. And, yes, I too sometimes intentionally screw up grammar to make a point. But some of the stuff posted here is atrocious!
