Theory Quiz!

Well, the results of 7 quiz takers are in. Exact scores have been sent via email.

So far, the average score is 82%. (This includes Mike Dimin's score of 114%. He received extra credit on 3 particular questions).

Questions 4, 8, and 15 seem to be giving people the most trouble, and two of them are very subjective. So I've graded very loosely. :D

Keep 'em coming. I'll post the answers when the thread dies.

Edit: Oh!, a quick hint or two. Intervals are important. I'm not giving credit for supplying enharmonics. Chord quality is important too, although in this situation I've been lenient. And note that #15 is a minor ii/V7/I.

Edit #2: Oh yeah, our good man LUMP has high score. (Not counting Mike Diminished Chord).

I doubt that'll last long. Coupla WAGs, coupla brain farts. I wasn't sure what was meant with #15, and went relative major. Guess not. And I still don't get the answer to #12, but I'm sure it'll get covered.

No matter. I'll probably play a "B" over a Cb7(b9) anyway. ;)

And Mike, if you remind Jazzbo that he forgot to give out the homework, me and the other kids gonna give you a world-class wedgie at recess. ;)

I couldn't answer half of those questions if I tried, one day tho, one day...!

Well I am going to try tonight... once I get home from work and have bass in hand! I dont expect to get many right, especially if there are any trick or subjective questions?

As as those who don't win always say, it's the taking part that counts! :D

Way back, I probably spent the entire class' hour arguing with my college professor over a similiar question.

I am absolving myself from the quiz: I taught Theory IV in college...the teacher wanted to answer mail, said I knew it as good as he did! :eek:

Well I'm gonna answer the test without doing any research, then look up a few things that I havent started learning yet, like diminished and whole tone scales... I don't expect to understand something I've not yet learnt!

I'm feeling good about this, as I've never taken theory lessons and the only background I have in theory is reading Jazzbo's intro to chord theory and looking at the Durrl threads around here. Not bad.

I read jazzbos "intro to..." too. Good work I thought, nicely written - easy to understand.

i got an 80%, AND i dropped the ball on the first question and a similar one.

and i was debating the answer with myself. "well, there's a Cb scale...and i've seen double flats before..." but NOoOoO...

and then there was a one about diatonic chords. i knew the correct answer, but for some reason expected that a dumbed down chord would work just fine.

ah well, an 80 is okay...for now!
