i don't know if its been said yet...

but as a white person. i am allowed to say cracker, honky, or whatever term i want, when talking to my fellow white peers, or about other white people.

but if you're not white... you can't say it, or call us it. cause it's racist if you do.

it's not hypocrisy, it's being politically correct.

I also knew a russian guy who, in the course of under an hour,
-interrogated every male that his daughter was hanging out with (complete with the "do anything bad to my daughter and I kill you" look)
-asked me, who he hadn't seen for years, how my father's business was doing
-and offered everyone some vodka.

I am not making this up...


Plus, as mennonite, I get the right to make fun of not just mennonites in general, but all the areas my heritage came from. So, I get to make fun of dutch people, polish people, and slovakian people. And if my scandinavian friend mentions his viking heritage, I say "At least I can go outside for an hour without sunburning".

My wife was a waitress at a grubby Mexican restaurant when we met(pretty girl bringing me free food & beer.. wonder where this is heading:ninja:). There was an older lady in the back washing dishes, didn't speak any English, who called my then-girlfriend 'wetta'- kind of a hispanic version of honky. I have always called her this(22 years together in Oct). Mind you we're both lily-white.

i find it stupid and disturbing that, in a world (or country, or society) that allows corporations to do credit checks on potential employees, and also allows them to take out life insurance policies on new ones without their knowledge, thereby paying the corporation tax free benefits upon their death, whether or not they work for them, and shafts the families that actually need the money, frowns upon, and has laws about, offending other people.

so...it's perfectly fine to diddle employees financially, and to crap on their privacy, because the affected parties can't easily fight the offenders, but a person can't say what they think anymore, nice or nasty, because the other person can?

i'm not a fan of widespread hatred. neither do i espouse stupidity. however, i still support freedom of speech, however distasteful. i also believe that with freedom comes accountability. if you are dumb enough to use your freedom of speech by calling a carrot a 'rootboy', understand that the carrot will call you to account by kicking your ass, and that most self respecting veggies will not be sympathetic to your black eye.

Mennonitism is a religion, but it was opressed enough between its origins and modern times that it now is a sort of ethnic group, with a sprawling family trees and roots in a lot of different countries. Now, there are more mennonites south of the equator than north of it, so most mennonites aren't ethnically mennonite, but a lot of those found in north america still are. It's also quite possible to be ethnically mennonite without being religiously mennonite.

IMO, anything said in hatred is a negative thing and who wants that in any society.. but to put them up as if they're the same is completely ridiculous.. a white person getting called a honky is in no way, anywhere close to a black person getting called a ni&&er.. ever.. maybe if white people ever endure 400 years of hatred and bigotry in the same fashion.. :rollno:

I read that whole post and understood very little, if any of it.

I will say this though. Sometimes you call the carrot a 'rootboy' and the carrot does not kick your @$$ - The carrot simply walks away. This does not mean that 'rootboy' is not a hurtful thing to call a carrot.

If you choose to use your freedom of speech to call an innocent little baby carrot a rootboy, and baby carrot holds his head high and walks away, you are somehow not a racist? Our words carry consequences that are significantly more far reaching than a black eye that you may or may not receive for saying them.

Oh PLEASE! You show me one black person that's endured anything for 400 years. That is one OLD dude!

You do not feel the pain of your ancestors. Get real. My great grand father had his legs blown off by a land mine. My legs feel great.

Today - We are all equal. To be perfectly honest, a black dude calling a white guy a racial name really IS the same thing as a white dude calling a black guy a racial name.

Just to be more clear - I'm a white guy and I used to live in a bad neighborhood (with poor people of every color) I absolutely have been called "cracker" by a group of black guys when I was in the wrong place in the wrong time. My heart raced a bit as I began to entertain the very real thought that I might get hurt for being different. You could say that it did have something to do with racial tensions today - but it had nothing to do with who's ancestors were slaves and who's weren't.
