Meh, it’s just a Musicmaster. Whenever that chopping was done, it was a budget bass. The real crime is the asking price.
If I was wealthier, I'd buy it just for the outrage it would engender amongst the vintage cork sniffers.
Clearly a DEVO fan had a saw and an uncontrollable urge for a La Baye 2x4.

Hey, it's a '70's Fender. QC was pretty lax. Can we be sure it didn't come that way from the factory?

The extremely rare Musicmaster stick bass. The only one ever produced. Worth millions.
I wonder how much the parts would go for on the vintage market? I see a vintage 1974 Musicmaster neck with tuning machines, neck plate, bridge and pickup. Maybe not too bad a deal after all?
Combined with some parts from a Squier Bronco, you can have a cheap half-vintage player grade Fender short scale bass for under $750.

Reminds me if this feedback machine that one of our guitarists made in the nineties.
You must get over the idea that every single Fender is a priceless,sacred heirloom that must be preserved in it's mint condition.
Or think of it this way -- the more of these that get trashed, the more the ones you all are holding on to will appreciate.
I’d never pay real money for something like that but hafta say it would be a fun and possibly rewarding challenge to fabricate and attach body “wings”
I am not positive what a vintage Musicmaster neck would sell for but considering you have that in OK shape plus a (possibly) 70's Mustang pickup and the vintage bridge I think they have it priced pretty fairly. Its a shame what happened to it but at least the seller isn't trying to sell it for 4x what its worth.
