Jive I lived 3 blocks from Wrigley Field 70-73 with my moms when my parents split up and the grammar school I went to on Addison NEXT To the Town HAll police station was my older bro's gang H.Q. (Latin Eagles) and they had a big mural on the school playground building, no one messed with it , not the school admins., or the cops.

But you're right the Northside is soft NOW.:D

We used to live in Albany Park when we first immigrated to this country in 73. The neighborhood was bad enough to make my mom move us to the South Side :eek: Looking at Lincoln Park now, it's hard to believe it was once Latin King turf. Similar things for most of the North Side, it's hard to imagine it as anything but Yuppieville.

Interestingly enough, my friend who went to Lakeview used to tell me about the Syrian Eagles. For the longest time, I thought he was kidding. North Side had more ethnic diversity in their gangs than what we were used to on the South Side. They had OGs, Flip City Kings, Dragons, etc..


This thread has really got me reminiscing. If I weren't so messed up back then, I'd remember more of it. :D

Police had them under surveillance for some other shootings on chicago's westside.

I must say even I was surprised by the fiercness of the shootout. My wife told me she heard like 50 gunshots and then nothing but sirens and helicopters for the next 4 hrs.:rollno:

A top Chicago gangster linked to a bloody gang war is near death after he stabbed himself 20 to 30 times just as police were about to arrest him this week, authorities said.



Cook County prosecutors said Friday that Lamell "Slim" Burns -- a reputed leader in the New Breed gang -- remains in critical condition at Stroger Hospital.

Also Friday, Cook County Judge Maura Slattery Boyle ordered Burns and another alleged leader in the New Breed, Melvin "Ben Ben" Martin, held without bail in connection with a planned hit of a rival gang member that police foiled Oct. 31 at a Humboldt Park intersection. The incident ended with officers shooting to death two of the would-be hit men.

Prosecutors say Martin and Burns orchestrated the planned hit, using cell phones to direct their underlings to the target, a member of the Traveling Vice Lords. Burns and Martin were arrested at separate locations a day after the shootings.

Martin was arrested without incident near his home in Riverside, prosecutors say. Martin, 30, appeared briefly in court Friday, and his attorneys described him as a father of two.


Police use stun gun
Prosecutors say police were trying to arrest Burns, 29, in the 1700 block of North Lockwood when he fled and ran into an empty first-floor apartment.
"As [police] were attempting to place the offender in custody, he began stabbing himself with a knife," according to a Chicago Police arrest report. "A [stun gun] was deployed by [police] to prevent further injury or death and officers were able to gain control of the offender."

Investigators say the on-going gang war between the Traveling Vice Lords and the New Breed has claimed the lives of at least 19 gang members this year.

A small aside, I bet dollars to doughnuts that the guns really weren't AK-47's. The police and media love to call any semiauto gun, or heck, any gun they don't have a clue about what it was, an AK-47 just because it sounds evil.

Other than that... gang members shooting gang members... as long as their aim's true, why interfere?

Normally I would agree with that statement, but this time there were plenty of eyewitness accounts from people in the apartment buildings that as the police opened the back door the guy with the AK fell out and people saw the cops pull out the weapon.
Also it's not out of the norm for gangs to have automatic weapons.
