Reminds me of the time when we were kids and lost our ride home from the Aragon Brawlroom. We did everything we could to try to get busted for curfew, so we could get a ride home from the cops, but they didn't care at all. So in the end, we wound up taking the CTA bus from Lawrence all the way down to Archer Ave all along Western ave in the wee hours. Won't forget that trip.

Cafeteria de Pancho is still there, they great cuban sammies!
That particular area is very much latino, and older caucasians that have lived there forever.

Yes, although that term is kinda fluid, in reality in the streets
most of the gangs will fight each other regardless of their affiliation. It is used in the jails to identify themselves.

Seriously, it's hard to grow up in Chicago during the 70s and 80s and not know something about gangs.

Yes it is, I did my share luckily I had people that showed that I had other options:cool:
And I still have "old" friends that still live that life and have passed it on to their kids.

Also I learned a lot of great things at the YMCA that used to be on Division & Ashland , they should have never torn that place down to put a Wendy's and a Pizza Hut.
Lots of kids like me had nowhere to go after that.:scowl:

Are you kidding me? In Istanbul,I don't go to market without a pepper spray.I've faced every kind of psychopath in the city.Damn,I'm moving to Canada.I'll be fine there as long as I ain't wearing a T-shirt writing "STOP!" on it eh? :smug:

It all depends on who you ask. I grew up on the South Side (Garfield Ridge), and I considered my neighborhood safe compared to most other neighborhoods in the city. Each "side" of Chicago has it's good and bad parts.

People on the West Side think that it's worse on the South Side, and people on the the South Side think that the West Side is bad. We all agree that the North Side is a little soft. :) Personally, I prefer the South Side.

Nowadays, the West Side is going through a lot of gentrification so it's just a matter of time till it looks like the North Side. ;)
