They're younger than me!!!???

At my age now three quarters of the artists/bands I listen to are younger than me! Some of them are quite a bit younger than my kids come to think of it. Even some of the pretty old ones are still younger. Elvis Costello is a bit younger than me, as are many of the punk/new wave artists from the 70's and early 80's. But at least the likes of Ronnie Wood, (who used to be one of the cool people in my neighborhood when I was in my early teens) is still as many years older than me, just as he was way back in the 60's.;)

When music first became a major force in my life at age 11, (1963, when The Beatles released their first record) all my musical hero's were usually a decade or more older than me. But staying alive means that as time passes, the chances are that things reverse, well at least they do if you remain open to new artists and sounds as they come along.

I don't mind if the age of people I listen to now make me feel old, at least it means I'm still around to hear them and my mind's still open.:thumbsup:

If it makes you feel any better, she's also covered Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Metallica, and a variety of 80s and 90s rockers. Grown-up Miley is actually pretty badass.

The blokes in Silverchair are a year younger than me, and when their album Frogstomp exploded in the 90s, it was crazy to me that kids my age (technically a year younger) were living the rock star dream.

It's like others said, at the time most of my heroes/influences were older than me and people I'd look up to, so Silverchair being teenagers like me and as good as they were was wild to me.

Nowadays, a lot of the music/bands I'm getting into are younger than I am. I'm always itching to see and hear what's new. EDIT: My favorite new (new-ish) band right now is Sumo Cyco, and they're a good decade younger than I am. I love their creativity and DIY ethic.

Maybe it's just me then. I don't think about those things. I had my shot, didn't make it and moved on.

Whenever I think that a lot of music these days is made by people much younger than me, I console myself by thinking a) I'm a whole lot younger than Led Zeppelin, and b) The Beatles are like my great-grandparents. Can't believe PJ is over 50 though...
