The best fiver I ever played was a Yamaha. TTey found the perfect balance between neck width and string spacing.

My 4 string Ibby SR had a horribly floppy neck. Are the fivers better or worse?

If you can find a Peavey Cirrus 5 I always found their necks to be fairly thin. 35" scale.

I played an Ibanez BTB for about 8 years and the neck was thin but just bought a Carvin LB75 and the neck is smaller at the nut but with the same thin feel very comfortable to play.

The Warmoth gecko 5 is another good option if you are into 35" scale basses. The geckos come in 3 neck sizes - wide, medium and small. The string spacing on the small is tighter than on a jazz bass. It is the same spacing as their 6 string model minus one string. The geckos have an asymmetric shape that makes them super comfortable and fast to play.

Shortly after I Played a Carvin Bromberg and the Feel was amazing. So i Ordered one. Something about the neck makes this Bass incredible. The whole Bass is Amazing.And a Blast to Play.

What model Carvin? I know they told me their Brian Brombergs all have a wide string spacing, which generally means a wider nut.

All the Carvin 5 stringers are usually 1.75" at the nut, though at the bridge, some are 19mm and others are 17mm.

The Bromberg and SB5000/B50/PB5 series necks are IMHO at the very top of the 5 string world for comfort, playability and tone.

The Yamaha BB1025x I had, had a nice narrow nut width. I don't recall the exact width. The bridge spacing was perfect for me. Not too narrow or wide. Warwick Corvettes also have narrow nut width.

My BB415 (probably same specs as the 425 and 1025) is 42mm at the nut (same as my USA 4-string Precision) with 18mm spacing at the bridge. The best 5-string neck I've ever played!

I have a Ibanez sound gear SR505 and it's got a decently thin neck for a 5 string. I'm a pretty small gal with small hands. It's still a bit wider than I would like, but it's the compromise I make for the B string. For the $ it was the best I could find.

I'd like to add Yamaha 5ers from the 80s (BB5000 and RBX5), Fender MB-5 and G&L L5000.
