Things that shut you up....

:eyebrow:

Your winning the argument. The self-righteous part in you is totally in-mode.

Then he/she takes out THAT playing card in the conversation.

And you just sigh and realize that you have nothing to say to that. Maybe it's due to the fact that you realize that this guys got Ignorance on his side and that is your friend Logic's elder cousin who can beat the **** of him at will.

Or maybe because you just realize that you plainly have no answer to that. You just dont.

Have you guys ever been in situations like that ? Like conversations with your mates/wife/gf/boss/the-hobo-you-started-talking-to etc. where you just realize that you got nothing ?

Let's talk about it.

In my case since I'm single (and have been since the start of time) I just find people sneaking in some line which they put in to emphasize the fact that they have a significant other and I dont so I'm some kind of dork or something.

It usually happens with people who I talk to who are pissed at my music thing/being sucessfull in life/having passionate interests in things and just being intelligent in general.

When I'm talking to some faliure of a musician or just some guy whose failed a year in college and got a drop, when the "...oh yeah...well my GIRLFRIEND told me about *yap* *yap*..." I just know why he said that and I just know that all I can do is shut up.

When I find myself making a case/argument against someone who is completely oblivious to the reality of the subject while also very opinionated close minded about any points of view that conflicts with his/her often naive perception of said subject.. That is when I just shut my trap, turn around and walk away.
As time goes on, I find myself less and less willing to even attempt to begin any sort of real discussion with some people that I know because of this. It's always a dead end that neither of us will learn anything from, and there for is a pointless waste of time.
And that is why my band thinks I'm a recluse. Fact is, I'm tired of "OMG DUDE I GOT SO WASTED LAST NIGHT" isk conversions.

I feel for you. It's pretty much the same scenario on my end, only I'm neck deep in the recluse bit that I dont actually have more than a couple people around to THINK I'm a recluse. It's good in a way I guess. It's my own making. I just feel exhausted with the conversations I would have to have with majority of the 'herd' :hmm:

The worst one I've had was an argument with one of my best friends.

me-"Dude, I don't think she's the right woman for you."
him-"That's just because you've been trying to sleep with her for 6 months."
me-"HUH?"

I'm probably the only guy that she knows that hasn't slept with her, including several of our friends.

It's always a danger to get into an attacking position not having all the facts, I try to avoid it these days. Though sometimes when it for some reasons happens to be a situation where I am wrong and someone else obviously is right, I try to take a step back, can't say I always did before, but we live we learn ...

Though it still sucks.

A few relationships ago I had a girlfriend (who was clearly losing an argument) actually say, "I'm tired of arguing about this - wanna have sex?"

Come to think of it, I think that would end an argument no matter who you were talking to, either from desire or horror.

a few relationships ago? what happened!?! when my girl gets hopped up about something she keeps arguing forever...

It makes for a worse story, but relations did not follow. It was something she said because she knew she had nothing else of substance to add to her argument and was looking for a way to catch me off guard.

On the other side, I dated a girl in high school and we argued all the time. And her favorite thing to say toward the end of arguments was, "I don't want to fight about this anymore. . . bu you're wrong."

It was infuriating.
