Things to do before gig...

I know a trumpet player who eats 2 bananas before a performance. I heard it helps with the nerves.

Not sure about bananas helping with nerves. But if you're playing a 3- or 4-hour gig mostly on your feet, they are a very good idea as they are high in potassium which can help you avoid leg cramps during and afterward.

As for sex... pre-gig, no way (takes your legs away). After gig, enjoy -- but only after you've done your part for teardown.

And BTW if you order a beer or two in advance... give the bartender/waitress a decent tip. It leaves a good impression of your band, and it can never hurt to have the wait staff on your side if you want to get hired back there again.

Glad it went well ! Keep in mind there will be great gigs and god awful gigs. After the bad ones just pick your self up, dust yourself off and keep going. Practice and preperation are the key. And never ever make the face if you mess up, just keep looking like you know what you are doing.

Congrats on the blues jam!

If you don't have one already, get one of those zoom h2 mini-recorders (or similar) and record everything. Also, have someone take lots of pics.

Great memories to have a few years hence.
