I still have my folding binoculars from when I was a kid. I used to deliver newspapers back in the late 60s and early 70s and I got this as a prize for getting new customers. Seeing 18 miles though - I don't think so.
The claim isn't very impressive to begin with. I live in Sacramento, CA, and on a clear day I can easily see the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountains. Now, if they said you could clearly see a specific object 18 miles away...

It reminds me of all those products that are referred to as "space age." Sputnik was launched in 1957. Everything since then is "space age"!
