Those candy machines bring back crazy memories. I started smoking cigarettes at a really young age, and bought my first packs out of an old machine that looked exactly like those, in the laundromat around the corner from my house. 45 cents a pack! They cost 65 everywhere else, but the machine was outdated, and the cigarettes all stale. Pretty sure I was the only one who ever used the machine as remember each brand selling out, and then the machine was gone. Had an enormous sense of excitement whenever I had my very own full pack of cigarettes. They seemed magical or something for some reason.

I even remember the brands they had; Raleigh, Kent, lucky strike, belair, and a few others. They had Marlboro, but they emptied out before all the others.

Regarding those soda pop charms...were those the wax things with flavor in the middle that were like gum for 2 minutes then became unchewable?

Those soda pop bottle charms were little plastic toys you put on a keychain. You are referring to the wax bottles with liquid in the them like these. They are still made.
