If I remember correctly those things would go crazy if you took the child out while it was wound up.
Newington!We had an older McDonalds nearby here a few years ago. They tore it down and built a new one in that original style.

Super!It’s been nearly 40 years, but I remember the babies jerking back and forth and waking at the jarring sound of the crank! I quickly learned to wind a half-turn while the swing was still going. While moving, when you’d crank while swinging in one direction (I can no longer remember whether forward or backward), the crank was silent enough so as to not awaken the baby.
