We got a new Zenith b&w 19” tv in 1962. VHF only and knobs for horizontal control, vertical control, sharpness and brightness. It had a fine-tuning ring around the dial to (obviously) fine tune any of the 3 tv stations we could get. The 4th local station was the educational tv (precursor to PBS,) but it was a UHF station.TVs back then were not cheap either. Especially when you calculate what a person's income was then too.

I was 5 when we got it and I still used it when I went away to college in the mid 70s because my folks decided that, as long as I was leaving home, it was time for a color tv.
