Ha! We had a BBC Micro at my school, they never used for educational purposes but if you were the first to finish your French verbs you got to play Repton for ten minutes!
We had them too. I believe the gov had a relationship with Acorn to put them in all the schools in the early 80s.
I used to own one at home too. The version of BASIC on it was fantastic, super quick and easy to understand with lots of good documentation. It was my first 'real' computer after ZX81.
I remember all the Acornsoft games like Planetoid and Rocket Raid. Great days!
I thought they both had rubber keys? The ZX80/81 had plastic keys, the Spectrum had rubber keys(both the 48k and the one with less memory).

Yeah, the vast majority of Spectrums had the rubber keys but they made a slightly larger cased version, still 48k, with plastic keys.
Didn’t last too long before the mighty 128k version came out.
(just looked it up and the 128k came after Amstrad bought out Sinclair, so we were both right!)

Yeah, I’m sure it was the same internally, just a fancier case. You still had to plug the box in the back to plug a joystick into.

Some department stores from my childhood. Wards was a national chain (my step-father was a manager at one), the others, I think, were more regional.
Other brands that have died off. We had a Uniroyal dealership (step-father again). The parent company of Otasco went belly-up because of Uniroyal. We had sold the business a few years earlier (thank God!).
They didn't get nearly the love they desreved. I had a '70 Pinto that I did a lot of work improving. I lowered the suspension slightly, put better shocks on, and added a set of sway bars, front and rear. It had a balanced and blueprinted bottom end with a ported and polished head, spinning a stupid duration cam. I never had any money, so hotrodding a four cylinder was the best I could do. It would run mid 15's through the quarter mile, but would out-corner just about anything on the street!
Uniroyal is still around. I had set of Uniroyal Tiger Paws Tires recently.
