My first guitar came from Woolworth's as well. It was a Teisco guitar with the Woolworth's logo on it. I got in 1966 for my 10th birthday. It cost $35.00 which was quite a bit for my mother to put together since she was only making about $1.50 an hour then before taxes.

Do y'all remember these calendars? At the bottom, you tear off the paper page after each month. I remember getting them from different businesses when I was younger. Then they stopped.
This one was included with our last order from the joint where we order all of our legumes. I love it!

Actually, in my local supermarkets, they often have an employee floating on the register aisles helping people. Not only is it a nice service, it appears things up, so it probably makes $$$ sense for them.

My local supermarket has friendly clerks at the registers, no self-checkout lanes, "bag boys", and free carryout. The extra few cents they charge on some items is well worth it, IMO, for the quality of service they deliver. If I am in a mood for no interaction with people, I can go to their competitor.

Here, we always called them “box boys,” even though they never used boxes. As a kid I loved watching them “pop” open the paper bags, like lightning make a double bag, then just as quickly throw the items from one hand to the other hand already inside the bag.

it is a lost art, now.

A long time ago, a new grocery store opened around the corner. They had a banner across the check-out area, "If there are more than 6 people in line and we fail to open a new register, we will give you a free gallon of ice cream". I got two gallons before they took the banner down. This was ~25 years ago, nobody had self-checkout.

I was a bag boy in the 1970s. I took pride in bagging groceries properly and helping people to their cars.
