The only thing better was riding in the back of a Pick up truck! Against the law now.
I don't know, riding on the luggage rack of a Vista Cruiser while in altered states was kinda fun. Allegedly.
This also applies to the running boards of older VW bugs.
Did that a lot. Made the mistake of jumping off while the truck was moving. Did a few rolls on the ground but luckily didn't get hurt. My friends had a good laugh! This was in Hawaii, where it's still legal. We did a lot of dangerous things back then.

I should mention the Cruiser was my sister's faded green '77ish and the alleged event happened in '86 or '87.
My friends liked to pile into it and would invariably start yelling , "Batman's Party Station Wagon!" at anyone happening to be walking or at stoplights.
