The funny thing is they advertised albums, 8 tracks, cassettes and CD’s but I don’t know anyone that ever subscribed? Yet they were around for decades!
I did subscribe once. They did deliver what they said they would. Unfortunately the list of what was available was pretty much all bubble gum pop or things like "Johnny Mathis' Least Hits" that I might go for now but were anathema to a 15 year old rock and roller. The only tape I can remember from the ones I got was "American Pie" which I had a thing for, for a while.

I joined the RCA record club, similar to the Columbia House and others at that time. They were legitimate albums, not bootlegs or cheap copies. But the deal was you had to buy something like six more albums at full price over the next year or so. That wasn't so bad, but the way they would get you was every month they'd send you a mailer with a certificate for a selection they would pick. If you wanted that album, then do nothing and they would send it to you, at regular price. If you didn't want it, you had to send back the certificate with the 'no' box checked. Problem was this was back in the days of snail mail, and if you didn't get it back to them within a certain time frame, they'd send out that album you didn't want. Twice I ended up with albums I never wanted but it would have cost more to ship them back so I just kept them and gave them away as gifts. (I was/am a headbanger/rocker, and they'd select stuff like Fleetwood Mac or Peter Gabriel. Not even close to my interests.)
All in all, it wasn't a bad deal, and once I fulfilled my obligation of purchasing six more albums I terminated the agreement. They convinced me to stay on with a 'half-price-for-life' membership, but after another year of that I was tired of playing the game of mailing back the card every month, so that was all for me.

Looks like such a hard life. But it seems like Mama is eating pretty well.
I subscribed this kind of club in beginin 90´s: CD´s.
Had to keep subscription for some time, maybe 1 year, or buy a minimum quantity, don´t remember well; the first were low price, the next were full priced CD´s, but were worth, some were hard to find locally.

I was in three different record clubs over the years and never had a problem with them and got lots of cool albums cheap and sometimes free depending on the deals they offered. Long time members would get free albums. I still have some of the record club mailers.
