We've all learned about the Hindenburg, its story was in many history books. Unfortunately, the R101 went down seven years prior, and I only learned about through an Iron Maiden song.

I still watch The Munsters on occasion, one of the Rabbit Ear channels shows a block of them on Sunday afternoon.
I see something like this and my first thought is "Effects pedal! What kind of effect is 'Potentiometer'? Where's the foot switch?"

This is actually an older piece of test equipment known as a Decade Resistor box.

I worked as an Electronic design Engineer for 30 years and these are used to easily change resistance values by turning some knobs and/or flipping some switches.
We used circuit simulation later on but 30 years ago these were used and in some Electronic design work they are still invaluable tools even today.

There were a bunch of airship disasters. I remember a book that was just about them that I read back in the ‘80s. Probably read about the R101 in it. Hindenburg was just the final straw in that mode of transportation. Also it was politics that lead to them using hydrogen instead of helium in the Hindenburg…
