One of my first jobs as an electronics technician was testing and troubleshooting very complex circuit boards. We used computerized test systems that had the test software stored on these two types of magnetic storage media.

The drive for the disk pack was almost as large as a residential clothes washing machine. You put the disk pack into the drive through a door on top that opened up like a washer, and then removed the transparent blue cover so the read/write heads could extend onto the disk surfaces.

:thumbsup::thumbsup: my first FORTRAN programs in high school were punched onto cards ( at one of the many Uvic punch stations scattered around the campus) and then rubber-banded and put in the big box at my high school to go back to the university for the weekly 'batch run'. (the printouts arrived to our class the following week, assuming there were no bugs in the code!) We got a tour of the place and they had at least a dozen of those washing-machine-sized "disk pack" units...

Earlier in this thread, I posted,
"10 NBA players on the floor, and no visible tattoos" as a thing you don't see anymore.

It's interesting how things like visible tattoos, piercings in places other than the ear, and intentionally shaving one's head have become so commonplace.

You must have crossed over into an alternate universe! :wideyed: That not possible!

Just kidding! It’s a rare thing, especially for the young ladies. A few years ago, we had a young, bright and yes, attractive lady at work. Kind of Amy Lee like. A classic example of someone who would have one.

A few of us were on break at the coffee kiosk. Somehow the subject of tattoos came up. She just shook her head and said she couldn’t see the point of it. She also said she got a lot of peer pressure from others her age to get one, but she resisted.
