Things You Don't See Anymore Part 3

Thunderbird Drive-in, Ft. Lauderdale. Now a giant Flea Market. IDK if they still do movies. I rarely go to FTL(82m). After a quick consult with Prof. Google, I discovered there are at least 7 drive-ins in FL. One is just north of me in Ft. Pierce. I'm unlikely to go there.There are still a few drive-in movie locations in my area.
The Silver Drive-In is only a few minutes from my house. I have not seen a movie there in many years.

The Bar Ann Drive-In is about 20 miles from my house.
The Hi-Way Drive-in is about 35 miles from my house.
The Palace Gardens Drive-In is about 35 miles from my house.

I thought you were referring to the Straw Hat Pizza chain, which at that point was the topic of discussion. They expanded nationally in the early 70’s, then started to fade away by the 80’s, but amazingly are still around in limited form…

TBH, I never heard of Straw Hat Pizza B4 seeing it in here. None close to S.E. FL. We used to have Pizza Inn, but a quick search revealed that the nearest one is in Jesup, GA. We never had Shakey's either.
There are a couple in New Brunswick as well, my gf and I went to them every so often. Honestly pretty cool concept.There are still a few drive-in movie locations in my area.

We used to take the kids to the Magic City Drive in and you paid by the car not the person. We took subs, beverages, whatever and the kids loved it. You tune in the FM radio so the sound is really good depending on your car stereo plus 4 screens so a lot of choices. They recently added the $4.00 surcharge for outside food. If you have a van or station Wagon, SUV you could really make out on ticket price!
The one I was at was in the midwest. I never quite got the get-up, and how that related to pizza…it seemed to be part of the Dixieland Band thing(featured entertainment)that was prevalent in indie pizza joints in the late 50’s/60’s. Didn’t get the connection with that either, but I guess Dixieland Jazz had something of a retro comeback in that time period. It’s all explained in the Wiki below.
I thought Shakey’s was everywhere. They too have shrunk, but are still around in certain regions. Mojo Potatoes!

After a bit of research, I found that was one in Homestead(waaay south of Miami where I grew up), Miami Beach(never saw it), Tampa, St. Pete, and Orlando(?). We had a coupla semi-local chains in South FL and, of course, single places that had strong followings.

I briefly worked at the one my family would shop at as it was being shut down/closed out. Kmart was coming in at the time, Walmart was still out in the sticks.

Come to think of it, there is still "The STAR-LIGHT Drive-in" going strong about an hour north of my 'West Coast' studio:
I had driven by it a couple of times on the way to other places, but never managed to visit the nine years I lived out there. Maybe this summer if I can swing a trip out that way (it's 2222 km west of my "East-Coast" studio here - neither property is actually on the coast, but...)

I used to enjoy the band at Shakey's back in the late 60's in Columbia, Mo. The pizza was not memorable, but the music was.
