Back then, wages were about $1.25/hour so basically nothing has changed except the decimal points.
Now wages are ~$12.50/hr
Fish sandwich is ~$5.00 only with less cheese on it.
I remember this character on a lot of ads similar to this way back when. I can barely remember when pizza wasn’t the luxury priced item it seems to be today.
Easy to spot the smoker: the guy buried under the rock.

When I saw that Tripple Ripple Ice Cream cone on the old McDonalds menu, all I could think of was all those drinks on Sanford and Son where Fred is mixing his favorite drink of choice (Ripple) with others for several original concoctions. My fav was "Cripple" (Cribari and Ripple)

Or two burgers, fries and a small coke.
And we had to walk five miles uphill through the snow to get there.
I was at the first McDonald's I can recall about 1968 (I believe it opened in late 67) and I remember the basic burger being 19 cents Canadian ( they are ~$2.50 here now)
Both ways, of course. Same for me in Miami.
For those of us old enough to remember, their advertising catch phrase was "Change Back From Your Dollar". Burger, fry and drink for less than a buck. I had my first job there during high school a few years later and it was still that way...Geez, for a dollar I could get a Filet-o-Fish, fries, and an apple pie!
Yep! Always important to remember not what it cost in currency, but how much one had to work/save to buy it.
For context for everyone:
That $0.70 quarter pounder w/ cheese(back when cheese was an add on) would be $5.25 now. McDonalds pricing varies by location but that's on the low end of pricing currently (some are up as much as $7, around $6 seems common).
The Straw Hat pizza: 2 topping medium at $5.60 is $17.66 today*. No idea what compares to them so Dominos 2 topping medium is $13, Toppers would be $15 (both using pepperoni and sausage, 2 veg or meat/veg would be slightly cheaper). The two current mediums are 12", so if the Straw Hat medium listed is larger than price skews a bit.
*No idea when the menu is from exactly, quick search labels it only as 1980s. I used 1983 in the inflation calc.
If you lived in California, Oregon or Washington back, or even a trucker in the day, you might reminisce about this.
. The old U.S. Highway 99 which was decommissioned in the wake of Interstate 5 in 1968 . Portions of the former road still exist as state highways, local roads or historic byways. For me, there's still a way busy stretch of California 99 all the way to Bakersfield.

The sad thing is over-weight grown ups played that game too!

The only thing I remember seeing at my last trip to a drive-in was a beautiful Rolls Royce convertible. At first I was amazed that someone that rich would go to a drive-in, but then I realized that if I had a car like that, I'd never want to get out of it, either.
