Think this setup would work nicely?

Since i am really tight on money almost all the time i wanted to get the best bang for my buck on something.

Ive heard that once you set them up good SX basses play very good. so i was thinking of putting some EMG JVX pickups in an SX Jazz, maybe a hipshot detuner.

but... today i went to a shop and played a squire vintage modified jazz that had seymor duncan designed pickups and it sounded great to me! action was a little high but i could easily live with that.

what do you guys think i should do? just looking for opinions.

Go for the Squier. They are making some very playable basses. Action is adjustable by you...just read the stickies in the hardware/ repair forum.

I bought a very nice SX Jazz used at GC and it's great! It doesn't feel like a low budget bass to me at all, and it sure doesn't sound like it. I'm not going to change the pickups out at all, and I know what good pickups sound like (I've had Nordstrand pups in basses, and my other bass is loaded with SGD Sidewinders). Squier's are also really good, though.

The squires gonna be a better bass out of the box. Just read thru the posts on sx built to have any beliefs about them not needing a lot of work to make them real nice, stifled. In one the guys working on recently the neck screws where put in badly and one of the screws was allready bent from being soft chinese metal. When asked directly about the qaulity of the frtets the respon se was they are garbage, very soft. Another poster confirmed this saying you could just about tie the frets in knots, soft soft frets. The squires are much better imo.

There are lemons among the SX's, but they seem to be the rare exceptions. That's why the SX club is now in it's 12th thread! You'll be able to play a Squier first hand, though. I got lucky in that my SX was "used" at GC. I couldn't have asked for a better one.
