Thinking about joining the air force - thoughts?

I awnser your question first with a Question, are you planing on going in as a officer with your degree or start as a enlisted person? If your wondering I served 4 years in the USAF, And come from a family of USAF people.

Good that would be the way to go since you will have your degree!!!! If things still are the way they were you will end up in officer Training School which was at Lackland AFB outside San antonio Texas, The same bass enlisted men go for basic training . My next question, Why the air force and not a civilian job as a chef? Just curious

Well remember my info is some 20 years old, My Brother and father have long since retired, But at the time the AF was one of the easier Basic trainings, There is no such thing as a "Easy one", I dont know...It really takes a lot of Disipline
To make it through no matter what branch.

The main thing is to make Sure You get the Job you set out for Because once you say that oath....Your stuck!!!!

That happened to me, a recruter lied to me but still, I got to hang around england for 4 years(I was at RAF Alconbury up in the Huntington area for any Brits here).

But anyway the benifits are the same across all 5 branches of the milatary.....the added plus was I got to see Pink Floyd at Wembly on the Wall tour!!!!!!!

Because there are plenty of air force opportunities in Colorado, where my family is. I'm not counting on it, but thats what made me choose it over the others.

As for not just being a chef, those jobs are so.. Insubstancial. It's like, you can't make a solid career out of being a chef in one place (Well you can, but its not likely).

Armed forces just seems so much more definate and secure. There are seldom retirement plans in this biz, too.


EDIT: And I have thought a lot about this, and they aren't just fluid plans. I'm already a sophmore (Technically I'm halfway to an associates, but the credits are the same and I can just continue after I get that degree) and have worked in the industry for years.

Well then sir I salute you, You have awnsered the few questions I had And it seems like youve given this a lot of Level headed thought and have your eyes wide open and still looking at options any thing I can try to awnser for you I will be more than happy too!!!!!!!!:)

Well sort of the same thing but different, You go to officer traing school where you not only undergo the same basic training type stuff an enlisted person does, But you also go through leadership and managment courses, You will have to go through the obsticle course( unless they have really changed it youd have to be a real wimp not to make it through), Learn To fire A M-16 properly, do a lt of running and marching but really the first months your in are the hardest, Once you get thru ots you would recive your commision and be a second LT. from there they would probobly send you to their Tech school for cooking where you would learn how to manage a kitchen, and how to plan meals for a very large group of men and women, manage civilians, Ordering For the stock room, You might not be able to use your culinary skills as much as you like, but keep them up to date.....Look at it this way even if you only do this for four years youll be able to walk into any resraunt with both culinary experience and managment experience!!!!!
