Thinking about renting a cabin to jam in

That's really an awesome idea. I'd just make sure that there are no HOA rules or local ordinances against amplified sound first. But yeah, killer.

Best practice would be to make sure it’s a free-standing structure with any neighbors being a respectable distance away.

In this case, you have to think of other people, who drove long distances for a quiet getaway and end up having to hear a loud band blowing the windows out next door!

Sounds like maybe you might want to rent someone's isolated hunting cabin out in the woods, in summer when it's not used. Yeah, unless you're going acoustic, has to be far from neighbors!

I've often thought about doing the same, except just me and my (now long gone) dog Angus, and a couple of acoustic guitars and basses and such. Just a week of woodshedding in the woods. Never happened though. :(

That sounds bout right. A hunting cabin. I’m sorry you didn’t get that chance yourself. of course it’d have to be remote. I’d hate to have anyone stop the jam. My wife told me to use the house and she’ll take a vacation. lol

I'll still make it happen. Just need to find another dog first. :D (And clean up my place a bit so that said dog doesn't destroy any music gear lol.)

I used to own such a cabin and have had jams/recording sessions. Neighbors are kinda close by so I made sure I picked a weekend that it was likely that few people would be up there. Worked well. Consumed all sorts of adult beverages and everyone stayed the night. We’d set up the drummer in the bunkhouse ! Just like real recording studio!

if you find a place by a lake, just know that even quiet sounds carry far over water. so it’s not just about any immediate neighbors but also neighbors across the water.

One of the reasons I sold was that a year round resident who own a large tract of land up the valley decided to diversify his outfitter business by hosting weekend long rave/EDM “festivals”. Several hundred in attendance. Music going 24 hours a day for three days. Fully permitted by the town but THAT sound carried up the valley quite a bit. He was two miles away but I could hear everything. Lots of people were very unhappy but it was mostly seasonal residents complaining. I could not sell that place fast enough.

I don't understand the premise... but I live in Maine, does that explain my feelings?
Is this a Covid getaway? if it is, the idea makes no sense since I assume you'll be in contact with all band members, and then later your family.
If not, then what are you accomplishing with this plan? will your (and all band mamber's) family not allow garage or basement jams in or near your home?
