Anyone heard or played these?

Had a couple of deals fall through, so I'm back to square one. Played an Ibanez SR505 at Guitard Center - really liked the neck - but felt a bit flimsy overall.

SBMM Ray35 - was not impressed. But then, the GC guy kept pushing it on me too.

Yamaha TRBs - can't find a good deal on one. Blown my budget on a 4banger, so my budget for a 5er is down to $400. Found a Yamaha BB615 - I think I'll go that route.

I don't know. Suggestions???

If you can find one, the U.S. made Peavey Millenium is also a good option.

This or an Axcellerator are the 2 current market best buys.

Just a suggestion here. If the gig date is right around the corner, then you might wanna get your butt to some music stores and start playing every 5 string they have within your budget. Hitting up www.craigslist.org wouldn't hurt either.

Some may disagree with this, but you're never going to know what you like until you get out there and actually play a variety of them.

I've played a few Ibanez basses - and really like the SR505 - I just it felt a bit flimsy.

I tried Music Man (and the SBMM Ray35), Fender, Schecter Elite, Squier, Zon, Tobias B (and MTD Heir), Peavey Mill, Warwick $$, Spector Rebop 5 and Yamaha BB415 (they didn't have a 615 to try). These I haven't tried: Spector Euro 5, Yamaha TRB1005, G&L 2500, Warwick Streamer LX, Tune TWB53, Steinberger Synapse, MTD Artist.

I'm really thinking of going with the 615 if it's as smooth as the 415. Oh, and the Spector Legend Custom is pretty sweet too.

I recently picked up an older Musicman SR5 in great shape for $900. I highly recommend them if you can find one within your budget.

I love this bass so much...been playing it for 8 years exclusively now. My bass teacher actually sat in on a gig I was playing (we go back and forth on this with either of our gigs a lot) on the SR5 and said he understands why I like it so much now.

I paid $1000 for it, 1 year used, 8 years ago.

It sounds to me like it should be one of these two that you mentioned then.

I understand why you'd think the Ibanez feels flimsy. The entire bass, especially the neck, is extremely streamlined. It's also so light that when you strap one on it almost feels like there's nothing there. I assure you though, other than the odd one out, they are well built basses and can take a good amount of abuse.

Well, I survived the gig, but I found a great deal on a Warwick Corvette 5er.

I'm a happy 5er dude now.
