Thinnest flats?

I looked at various string manufacturers' sites and it seems that 040-095 Chromes are the thinnest. Are you aware of even thinner guage (e.g., 035-095 or 030-090)?

Well, I've played with 050-110 & 045-105 gauges for 15 years. But I recently strung my Tune bass with 030-090 Hi-Beams and I love the snappy tone. I just want to explore how thin flats would sound.

Is it low tension flats you're after? The Thomastik Infeld flats are Really floppy but the E is still typically heavy gauge (but low stiffness.)

I used an ADGC set of Rotos tuned down to standard for a while, worked suprisingly well.

You can, but your bass will play like crap. You'll probably have to get a new nut, raise the action, and loosen your truss rod, but even then unless you have an extremely light touch your strings will likely be crashing into the frets.

Say that to Mark King. Even Geddy used 030-090 in the 80's. Don't you know that some famous funk/slap players use the 030-090 gauge? Some even use 030-080. Broaden your perspectives and don't be mean.

i bought chromes for the sole reason that they were the thinnest flats i could find in a set. not about to buy a 6 string set just to bump them over and have two strings left over. fortunately, they turned out to be strings i like.

btw, i totally agree with you, chris. if you want really thin strings, get yourself really thin strings. i used to use .035 rounds. sounded great amplified, and nobody ever once said anything about them being too thin, and why would they? they're not the ones playing them.

MUCH nicer strings than Chromes too.

I'd suggest TI flats however they are not as thin as a .30

Invalid Link Removed, has a "Jaco" set JC106 at 035-050-065-080 gauge.

I have an 045 set, that are pretty sweet sounding flats.
Also have a JC106B, set on order with Invalid Link Removed. Ask for Julie.
They accept paypal, and will simply send you a paypal invoice to place an order for Dogal, strings.
Great folks to deal with, the JC106 set will probably run about $80-$85? Best to inquire directly for shipped prices.

Well, they are manufactured in Venice, Italy...probably get shipped out via gondola's and those boat rides ain't cheap
