Thinnest Jazz Bass Neck in Your Experience

I think the Geddy Lee necks are very thin. Geddy was a Rickenbacker Player and wanted a similar neck.

I recently purchased a Pearl Sea Foam Precision Bass Specials (MIM GC Special Runb( and it has a black inlay and bound J bass neck. I am pretty sure this is the Geddy Lee Neck as it is one of the thinnest I have ever played. IT is definietely as thin as the 'old" Geedy Lee basses.

I think the Geddy basses I have played (probably 6 in the store, have varied in thinckness. I think this si a MIM issue.

My favorite neck is on a 94 (could be a 92) American Made Jazz Bass. This was the run where the modified the body shape. (and Jazz bass enthusist went balistic. (This was not a JAzz bass deluxe.) It had a scaled down hip, greater offset, meaning deeper cut horns and the top one really jutted out there. It has a rosewood fretboard and super thin front to back thickness. I have never had to adjust the truss rod, and the action is the lowest and fast of all my J basses.

I bought it from a girl who bought it new, never learned to play it and had it under her bed for 15 years. (sometimes life is good. )

The early Geddy's had crazy thin necks. So thin that when I tried them out in stores, the neck would shift from playing hard. So I skipped over that bass in favor of a Musicman Stingray.

So true. the early Geddy's were crazy thin.
I bought one and could never get use to it.
Put a 1957 Reissue P-Neck on it, sold the Geddy neck.

Not a Jazz bass at all but the smallest, most comfortable neck I've played is my Kramer Disciple asymmetrical neck. Tiny width at the nut and front to back, it's unbelievably thin. I've played a couple of Jazzes here and there, and they all feel somewhat thicker (probably due to the Kramer's asymmetrical neck).

I had one of the older Geddy's and I agree they were paper thin. The thing moved every time the weather changed, or even if you looked at it funny. There's thin, and then there's TOO thin.

But I forgot: Avri '62 is paper thin too... I'm not fan of them, 'cause I'll possibly prefer a Precision neck, but all other circumstances tell "Jazz bass".

I have a fretless Jazz Bass Special neck (E-series, black headstock--the one Duff MacKagen favors, I think.) with the satin finish that is by far the thinnest front-to-back J-neck I've ever played. Wish I could find a fretted version ...

I have both and and my two 01' MIM Fender Js necks are even shallower! Stable, fast and comfy!

My Geddy Lee Jazz (Black) MIJ is the thinnest JB neck I've played on. I have no problems with it.

+1 on the Peavey Foundation. Very thin, very comfortable and very inexpensive.

The Peavey G-bass graphite neck mold was made from a Foundation. though the G-bass scale is 35" the neck dimensions are identical.

Thinnest neck, in my limited experience, is the Washburn XB-900. Like the thickness of an iPhone, but in quartersawn maple!

This may say something about consistency (or inconsistency in manufacturing) but my Aerodyne AND my American Special are both thinner than the Geddy Lee's around here.

Consider there were radius differences between my Made in Japan Geddy's and my own favourite bass modder's Crafted in Japan Geddy's (being much thicker than mine… well… wait a minute… get me... as "thicker" as a "pencil" like jazz bass neck can possibly be)
