This CL ad makes me SO leery

someone in the Portland area reply to it and see what the reply is?
see if they can set up a viewing in a public place , if its all good buy it, if you get te standard nigerian scam reply or im out of country right now , you know for sure

Not true. My wife and I both use Gmail and have sold many things on CL. Gmail is a Google product and has nothing more to do with scams than Hotmail, Yahoo or other mail platforms.

I use GMail as well, but when the buyer does not provide a city and includes their email in the ad (rather than letting craigslist redirect it) it is usually a scam. They always seem to write out the (at)Gmail part. If you respond, generally you get an email back saying it has just been sold but you can get great deal at some other website ( as another TBer mentioned).

well, yes, I know what Gmail is. I have an account. But I am referring to the posts on Craigslist that seem to good to be true that always have a Gmail account.

Seems a lot like these in the San Antonio Craigslist. The both of them have the same [(at)gmail....] The odd thing is the same (at)gmail.... with the four periods at the end on these below and the OP's post. Too coincidental for me.

I thought it was strange that it included a reference to NAMM.

Someone just posted on the San Antonio CL about the scam after trying to buy a Roland electric drum set.

The name should be a giveaway. It's a variation off Frank Abagnale Jr, who was the expert scammer who pretended to be an airline pilot, a doctor, a lawyer, etc., and scammed millions before his 20th birthday. Pretty ballsy that they would choose that name.

G-mail is great for hiding who and where you are. Just before I entered several Asian countries several years ago our IT guy set me up with Gmail. He quickly showed me what can be done with it in the advanced mode. He said if my laptops were stolen no one could see any of my emails because Gmail can hid them. He also said when I hit 'send' with my Gmail, the receiver has no clue where the mail is coming from nor who is sending it. So yes, Gmail is probably the provider of choice for scammers.
