this guy is funny!!!!!

Just got an e-mail from the seller:

E-Bay Seller said:
Thanks for the info. I bought this bass on ebay months ago and didn't know what I had.

Kind of a polite brush-off to my polite informational message, i wonder what I would have gotten if I had sent him my original idea:

"Dood!!! *** is you're problem, you know that bass is nothing like your description, it's a friggin USED $99 mass produced Korean Fender Knock-off. Grow some F#$^ing dignity and stop trying to screw unsuspecting fellow musicians..."

He's sold a fair amount of instruments from what can be deduced from his feedback, so I really doubt he doesn't know what SX is. He certainly took a leap of faith calling it a "custom" "hand made" instrument, but that may just be me and my cynical nature.

I don't know what you guys are all riled up about, it's just some dude asking a high price on an instrument. As far as I can tell he didn't misrepresent it at all...and it DOES say "Custom Handmade" on the headstock, so the only one at fault for any misrepresentation would be the manufacturer. As for the feedback, it's rather ridiculous to assume based on 118 feedback that "he obviously knew what SX was". What one CAN deduce from his positive feedback is that many people have been satisfied with his description of whatever they might have purchased from him.

All in all, even if somebody does buy this they won't be getting ripped off, they'll just be paying more than was necessary. One could easily spend more money than that and get far less instrument in return.

+1

The nice thing about e-bay is that if someone buys somthing for a certain price, they must have felt that it was a deal at that price. And you could deffinately do worse for that amount of money.

However, I would be totally P/O'd at myself for not researching the item after I found out I can buy a new one for $129.95.

The good news - the original listing expired. My faith in the bass-buying community had been affirmed.

The bad news - the seller just reposted the same ad at the same price. My sliver of hope that this buyer wasn't fully aware of what he is selling has evaporated.

This practice is not illegal, but that certainly doesn't make it right.

Given that an e-bay search for SX bass, gives you all the new ones that Rondo sells for much less - I don't see how this guy's approach will be successful.

Well, he didn't say much incriminating in the reply to my e-mail, he basically said "Thanks for the info, I bought it on e-bay a few months ago and had no idea what it was." and while his auction is misleading, it's not a lie as has been explained here (He says it is a "Custom Handmade Series" model, not that it is a handmade, custom bass.) and it's entirely possible that that is the price he paid for it and it's what it's worth to him (I don't believe that, but it IS possible and can't be proven not to be the case by me).
