It's interesting that you got no replies. I tend not to weigh in on this stuff and since you think this is exceptional enough to post I'd figure SOME people would have an opinion one way or the other. I think it may be because it's really kind nebulous. The guy is good. Obviously skilled and competent. But nothing extraordinary and it's a cover, so...what's so remarkable?
Now I bet if this guy got lots of praise, you'd get a boatload of responses using subjective buzz words like "bad tone, doesn't groove, lack of feel, no dynamics etc, which to me are just ways of saying "I'm threatened that someone who isn't famous is better and more popular than me." lol
The way I see it, lots of people are good in their own way and one example doesn't say much about what they are as a complete musician. I'm not sure what you hear here that hits you, but it does..and that's what music is all about.
