I'd have words with the BL after the gig as well. He's supposed to shield you (and the rest of the band) from that kind of crap.

We just don't do it, rule for all. The person may have all the talent in the world but we did the practice, hauled the gear, and will haul all the stuff home afterward.
No disrespect, but please find your own gig.
So this will now pose the question: What kind of backup bass do you bring to a gig for someone to sit in and play?
I don't own any basses that cost that much, but I've been in the $1500 zone a bunch of times when someone's wanted to sit in. I can understand others having a problem with it, but I don't. I don't baby my basses, and I've found most (actually every) bassist that's ever strapped my bass on has been SUPER respectful about it. I even loaned my Sterling to kid for an entire set in CBGB once when his bass totally crapped out. No harm done. That bass, at that time might just as well been a $5000 bass to me.

Somebody said it earlier in the thread. Plus, I was sort of playing off of the recent number of "backup bass threads".None, no sit in's. Agreed upon by all members in advance so no one speaks for anyone else.
IMO, this actually begs the question, WHY would you bring along a backup bass for someone else to sit in?

Nobody plays my basses, unless they are intending to buy it.
