I see a used one for sale, but "Ampeg" is conspicuously absent. But before I run away, I figure it's good to double check with the folks who know things that i don't.

I'm not familiar with that cabinet or those drivers, but it is quite common for the cabinet manufacturer's name to not appear on the driver itself.

This appears to be an Eminence driver, so I'd send those photos to Eminence's technical support email address on this page and ask them whether the tag appears authentic. There may also be a sticker inside one of the spokes of the basket which could further help them determine whether the driver is the one originally produced for that cabinet.

I've found Eminence to be very helpful in identifying their drivers when I've had questions like this in the past.

I believe that’s the correct factory driver for your cabinet. The DG series is OEM only.

Is this an example of using existing stock; or is there a reason to custom order an OEM 4 ohm driver for an 8 ohm widget? (In lieu of 16 ohm)

Yes, it is fairly common. Especially if they aren't too concerned about overall sensitivity and they already have this driver in stock from say a 410 model.

My SVT210AV has a couple 16 ohm speakers in parallel.

Edit: My Ampeg BA-210 V3 amp (which I no longer own) has (had) 16 ohm speakers in parallel. I don’t know for sure what is in my SVT210AV.

They aren’t US built drivers, they come from Eminence China.

Outside of the small Heritage line do any Ampeg cabs come with USA speakers? I was gonna guess no.

Its been a while for me since I messed around in a speaker cab, so I'm learning a bunch. lol

I'll add, it's nice that Ampeg is able to bring costs down so that more entry level and hobbyist types, can enjoy some Ampeg goodness. I can't imagine spending so much on much of the stuff I see new, now... but then again, I have kids now so that sort of changed my spending priorities.

I can't see how an Eminence speaker built to their specs and with their oversite wouldn't be as good as the USA ones . Just cheaper labor . Whether someone doesn't want Chinese built ones is another matter .

Much of this is for producing Eminence speakers closer to where many are used in manufacturing of cabinets.
