Wikipedia lists this as being wrote by Bootsy, and it doesn't for any of the other tracks. And if you think this ain't Bootsy you need more Bootsy! This is quintessential Bootsy, listen to those slides and accents. Go listen to Cholly, it is JUST his thang.

Wikipedia? The gospel? Yeah, right. You were there?

Bootsy is credited as a writer (err, wroter?), not as a bass player.

It's mostly bass synth, anyway. Thang or no thang.

Bootsy once said somewhere that any P-Funk track which listed him as a cowriter was one he played bass on with the exception of Flashlight (on which Bootsy played drums). Perhaps that is the case here as well.

It's a COMBINATION. Sometimes Electric bass alone, Sometimes WITH a bass synth.

Might be time to upgrade your headphones.

BTW, NO sampling. Worrell's fav: MiniMoog.

Dude, it definitely isn't the moog. There's a few bleep bloops, but it is 99% bass. Sounds like a P bass. Do you not hear the alternations between pop, slap, and fingerstyle? And the dead notes? And the clean slides? If you tried sliding that much on piano your whole arm would be raw and it would sound choppy. To be honest, I'd think it would be hard to find a track that better shows the contrast between machine bass and real bass.

For the seriously craziest Bootsy line that you've ever heard... that also wasn't Bootsy... check out George Duke's Reach for It. Complete with monster solo and excellent Bootsy vocal which I imagine isn't Bootsy either.

By the way, that's Byron Miller on bass and George Duke on Bootsy vocal imitation. But Stanley produced the album so who of us really knows... and, really, who cares as any one of the three and many more were capable of doing it.

Okay...did Bootsy play on any P-Funk tracks other than Bootsy's Rubber Band?

Every time there's a killer P-Funk bass line, someone says, "No, that's Boogie" or "No, that's Skeet," no matter how much it sounds like Bootsy's style and tone.

This is either Bootsy, or someone seriously copping Bootsy's style. I agree with Tupac's assessment: "This is quintessential Bootsy, listen to those slides and accents." I also agree with TBer Bo0tsy, who posted, "The credits on many P Funk album listings are often suspect or omitting personnel." Who actually believes that Bootsy played no bass on the "Funkentelechy" album? Why would George call him in just to play drums, and have Boogie (who is the only bassist credited on "Funkentelechy") handle all the bass? Or was it really Skeet?:confused:

As I said in a previous thread, I wouldn't be surprised to hear someone say that Bootsy didn't even play on Bootsy's Rubber Band tracks!

I listened the original LP and I'd say it's a real bass. Though the sound is kinda bootsish, I'd like to think the player is skilled ordinary funk fella. On what grounds? The bass line is somehow too unsurprising, for Bootsy Baby is known for his playful syncopations placed on the non-anticipated places and he uses lots of space when creating his lines. That's why he's one of a kind.
It is not Billy Nelson style, so it must be Rodney Curtiss.

Compare Bernie track to bass playing on this charming little ditty.
